Need rectocele surgery

Ladies I am new here so I hope I am sending this to the right board.I really need some input here. My GYN has suggested surgery to repair a rectocele. I have been putting this off because I am so afraid of it but now I am in so much pain I am considering it. Has anyone had any problems with this?

I agree, pain is terrible sometimes

I am so sorry you are experiencing this after your surgery. I believe you should go ahead with the repair to free yourself and to prevent further problems (enterocele possibility) and strain to your redesigned pelvic area.

I had a rectocele as result of prolapsed enlarged uterus and it was the heavy bleeding, awful back ache and finally horrific bout of pain and diarrhea that kept me prisoner in school staff toilet that led me to seek gyn help.

I also had cystocele but those symptoms I wasn't even aware of until I was told how to recognise the changes that had occurred.

I had all repairs done with my hyst LAVH and Burch so I can't comment only on how the back repair went, but I know I had vaginal packing to control bleeding, a cath in for 1 day ( it was not the biggie I had feared) and was given softeners and mild laxatives to keep stools soft and to avoid straining.

I also have lifting restrictions for life but check on that, mine may be also due to the bladder prolapse, not just the rectocele.

I must get this name right, I have called it retrocele and rectocele and when totally confused a back anal repair!

I originally kept my ovaries as was 41 at time of surgery and they looked good at time of surgery. I have since had cyst and right ovary removed and hope my left one will kick up hormone production. The right one has been belting out hormones but don't know if they were right ones or even in balance! I do my kegels daily as I was told I could have bladder and bowel prolapses again if I overdo the lifting, don't eat properly and don't keep pelvic muscles in good nick.

Hope this helps, I would also suggest a search on the site as there are many of us who have had this surgery and perhaps as a single op. procedure not part of hyst like mine.

Wishing you relief from your pain as soon as possible. Hugs, Linda
