Chemo 3 vs. 6 treatments for stage 1c OVCA

Thank you so much for the link. It is helpful. In talking with my boyfriend, I have decided to take one more chemo, making it 4 treatments. Although chemo is a Godsend for us cancer patients, it is still very toxic to the body.

That link was interesting. It says that 6 cycles afforded early stage ovaca patients a non-recurrence rate that was 33% greater than afforded by 3 cycles. Yet it says this is not statistically significant.

I guess my question is, what percentage *is* statistically significant?

I had OVCA, stage 1b and had 6 carbo/taxol treatments. My onc said that because mine was a grade 3 tumor, she felt 6 rounds was indicated. Best of luck.

Chemo 3 vs. 6 treatments for stage 1c OVCA

Dear Funbaychic1,

This is an interesting post for me.

I am currently trying to do 3 chemos on a 3 week span, after having done 6 on an irregular time frame, due to erratic blood counts. My gyn/onc, highly in demand in my country - Canada, and highly in demand in this region - the whole Caribbean - advised me, that due to my chemo lapses, which were many, due to low blood counts, that, basically, I would be starting over, so 3 on a definite 3 week schedule I would do. And, I will. What I do know is the following: For over 2 and and a half months, I was not "eligible" for chemo, due to low blood counts. I could have been in my own country, where health care is a given, and free. This, as a half-Scottish Canadian woman, whose father was the Director of Medicare, and Hospital Insurance, in my country, is frustrating. Everytime, that some medical bill has to be paid, I remember that, in Canada, there are no second class citizens when it comes to health care. This is so fundamental to me. (And, Hyster-Sisters, when you all read this, it was my father, Dr. David Stewart, a Glaswegian, who went to bat for Native Americans, in Canada, to include them in Canada's Health system. They're included!) It is outside my parameters to pay for health care; although, of course, my family does here for me. That's just an aside, of course. But, I fundamentally cringe at any any medical bill here.
