Does anyone know anything about whether or not to stop ibuprofin or vitamins prior to surgery?

I wondered the same thing about vitamins but forgot to ask. I didn't take any meds except vitamins up to the day of surgery and no vitamins on the day of surgery cuz I couldn't have even water.

I would ask at your pre-op visit, or call your doctor.

Hey Peg,

Your day is getting closer, which means mine is, too! I got my pre-op packet in the mail today and it says to stop weight loss drugs and herbal supplements a week before surgery. I, too, am curious about both ibuprofen and vitamins. My seven vitamins a day keep me alive, but I wonder if they will interfere in any way with the process. I am sure I can go a week without them since I am not bleeding right now. I am planning on calling in a few days to ask about having my family donate blood and I will ask then, but it would be good to hear from others here who know.

ibuprofen and vitamins

Hi, I'm having lapo/vag on Feb. 6th. My doc sent a letter in the mail with instructions to stop taking in pain medicine with aspirin and ibuprofen one before surgery. I was told vitamins like multi-vitamin and vitamin c 500 mg to take. I am having a hard time with trying to get use to tyenol instead of ibuprofen. I would check with your doc or nurse everyone can be different. GOOD LUCK. Tam

vitamins o.k. with my Dr.

I finally had my pre-op appt. today, I've been dreading it for awhile now but it wasn't bad at all. I asked my Dr. about continuing my One a day vitamin and my iron pill I put myself on just to make sure my iron is up and she said to keep taking them. She did say no (wine) 2 days before surgery to be on the safe side.

My doctor let me take the vitamins and ibuprofen up until the night before surgery, but check with your doctor to be sure.

Thanks all. I will call Dr. tomorrow to ask.

Nik, wanted to ask you another lupron question. As you know I had a very good experience with lupron last year. It was one last resort to hopefully solve my problems without surgery and hopefully push me to menopause, which it didn't. Anyway because of the heavy post lupron bleeding and severe anemia, ended up with another two doses....and still bleeding!! I remember reading in one of your posts that you bled for, I think, seven weeks before it slowed/stopped. I'm into the sixth lupron week and it lightened up alot, then today was heavy with the clots again. Did you experiance anything like that? I hate the thought of losing all the iron I have built up. Especially since Dr. won't do surgery unless hemoglobin is at least 10. Pre-op is Monday, will find out then. Yesterday went to the bloodbank with dh and df who donated two units just in case. Hope I don't need transfusion before surgery, but if i do, will do same....DO NOT want to postpone. Want this out of me big time.

I was wondering about the same things. I take Aleve for achy hands and Wellbutrin for SAD(I live in Alaska!). This is a good question for my Dr. when I have my pre-op. I was also wondering about wine...I was planning to stop a week before.

I was told no booze of any kind for 24 hours prior, but know some gals here have been told to stop up to a week prior. The anesthesiologist is the one who wanted that, not the surgeon. They're also very interested in any herbal stuff or street drugs, since they affect how the anesthesia reacts with the body.

I'm sure they'll get pretty detailed with you, but make that list of questions to take along so nothing gets forgotten!
