Enlarged Ovary? Normal CA-125, what is this?

Thanks for your support in advance. I've returned from my second trip to the ER in 5 days for pelvic pain that started as sharp shooting pains and has evolved into radiating pain to my lower back and top of my legs.

The first doc thought I was just ovulating, but 5 days later no improvement....so ultrasound was done. It showed an enlarged left ovary, 'maybe cystic'?? and the doc said to f/u with my OBGYN this week.

I had my FAH 15 months ago, kept both ovaries and have been doing really well most all the time. Then, just recently these pains started and with all the bloating, fullness and discomfort it reminded me of when I had a ruptured ovarian cyst 18 years ago. That required surgery.

However, there is no rupture here... only an 'enlarged' ovary. What can you ladies tell me about this? I've been approved for best rest for a couple days, but don't even understand what is going on and if bedrest would make it go away or not?

Oh, and my blood work was all good... and CA-125 came back '11', within normal, if that helps.

What do I do?

Thank you,

Remember that the CA125 test is not a screening test because of false positives and negatives. Does the ultrasound show a solid cyst or one that's fluid filled? If it's solid and a pelvic exam causes concern or pain, you may just want to consult with a gyn/onc to be doubly sure. Most cysts are benign. Ellen

I too experienced alot of your same symptoms. However, my ca 125 was quite elevated.
What were some of the adjectives used to describe your ovary in the ultrasound? Solid or septated may be cause for concern.
Followup with your ob/gyn. An ultrasound followup should be recommended to make sure the cyst shrinks or disappears.
Best wishes.
