Am I Losing It?

I have been having an internal crisis about leaving work to have surgery since I found out it was necessary. I am a teacher and of course we think we are indispensable. First I cancelled my date, then rescheduled. Now I am having trouble getting an appropriate sub for my high school classes. On top of this, I got hit with PMS, which for me is almost worse than my periods, which are torture.

Yesterday one of my 7th grade students talked back to me and I lost it. I yelled at her, I told another kid to "shut up" and went to sit at my desk until the tears stopped. I will have to apologize to the class today. I never speak to my students like that, but it all burst out. Later I yelled at my 6th graders when they all either forgot their book or their violin. I had to apologize to them, too.

All I can think is that this can't be over soon enough. I am up at 4AM, can't sleep, then am tired all day. Thanks for letting me vent here...I am so nervous and apprehensive.

Re: Am I Losing It?

Hi Julia your just on a emotional rollercoaster ride and like any scarey ride it will be over before you know it and then you will feel so much better! I'am sorry that you vented on your students. Perhaps if you explained to them that you are going to be having surgery and that right now your not at your best...I'am sure that they will understand. I can relate to the sleepless nights...been there...saw that...still got black circles. Maybe you should take time off now...it sounds to me like you need the break. You can catch up on your sleep and also prepare for your up and coming surgery. I looked at my recovery as a vacation and I'am enjoying myself immensley! My Best Wishes to you.
