Radiotherapy and Melatonin

Has anybody tried taking Melatonin while having radiotherapy? Apparently new research shows it helps a great deal. Life Extension Foundation has some reading on it if anyone is interested.

Radiotherapy and Melatonin

I went to a lecture for pelvic cancer patients given by a nutritionist. She suggested that we take melatonin, particularly if we didn't get at least 30 minutes per day of direct sunlight. She said melatonin is absorbed through the eyes. Since I often have trouble falling asleep, I take it at night. I figure it can't hurt and it might help. I would like more information on that report. What dosage to they recommend for us?

I remember a study that was done that showed people work at night, night shifte workers, are more likely to get cancer and they speculated that lack of melatonin might be a factor.

Thanks!

Radiation and Melatonin

Janie,

The recommendation is a high dose while having radiation. I don't recall exactly but you can read up on it at www.lef.com where there is an article on this topic. Life Extension Foundation is in Asia somewhere but reports to USA authorities and others. The recommended dose for sleeping for a woman is 1/4 to 1/2 tablet each night, too much can give you nightmares apparently.

I keep thinking 1100 or 11,000 something is the dose while having radiation, but it apparently helps the immune system. I have not read the article yet, but a doctor on radio mentioned it a week ago so I was interested.

I also don't sleep well and want to try it. I almost never go out of the house now so don't get the sunshine I need either.

I will ask on the radio tomorrow if I think of it.

I had difficulty finding the article but go to:

www.lef.com
magazines
articles 2004
melatonin and cancer
page 2

There are several bits and pieces about various cancers and treatments, but I think this is the one I was referring to. I wish I had read it last week!
