Vag cuff?

Ok in case anyone does not see this question here I am again

Someone has mentioned to me a vaginal cuff and that it may be healing. Causing my spotting after surgery.

I do not believe that I have one. The doctor never mentioned before or after surgery. Does everyone have this and what is it?

I am going for 1 week post op today and I am going to ask him about it

Vag cuff?

Dear Jane,
I see in your profile that you had a vaginal hyst.
In this case, it is just about 99.999999% sure that your cervix was removed also (how else could they get the uterus out??... well, I'm sure they'll find a way soon, but for the moment, with a vag hyst... out it comes!)

The analogy that is often used here, is "think of a roll of toilet paper". That is your vagina. Before surgery, your cervix would have formed the closing at one end of the tube.
After surgery, the end of the tube is sewn together.

That is your cuff.

Hope that helps.

Vag cuff?

Nothing was removed but my uterus. He went over EVERYTHING that pre-op day and daid that the only thing that was coming out was the uterus.

I asked about the cervix and ovaries just to make sure and he said "No that there was no need."

So in that case would l still have one.

It doesn't feel any different than normal.

I am confused.

Vag cuff?

Well, I'm confused too.

But then I can't claim to be a medical expert......

Obviously, at this point, another chat with your dr is in order - for your peace of mind.

(and maybe you could let us know?)

vag cuff?

Hmmm...I am confused too as the only way to get the uterus out with a total vag hyst is to take out the cervix too...unless you have a laproscopic assisted vag hyst. Let us know the answer to your question. I am curious now.

vag cuff?

I had the same surgery and have no cervix any longer. I'd had trouble with mine(pre-cancer cells) so it was best to take it out. But, I too, thought it had to go with a TVH.

Let us know what your doc says. I plan on asking mine for a copy of my surgery and pathology report at my 6wk check-up so I can read about the nitty gritty.

Take good care.

I have the answers!!!!!From The Doc...

Ok ladies here is what I found out:

1. I need to realize that I have had MAJOR surgery even if I don't feel like it today.

2. I still need to rest.

And the answers you have been waiting for:

I still have my cervix. I do not know how but the reason is because it did not need to be removed.

He mentioned the cuff thing but according to what I understand about it:

nothing was inserted into me (I thought an actual cuff thing) This is where he sewed place to keep the cervix closed. This is the way I understood it and this "cuff" will not come out or need to be removed.

The way I also understand about the cervix, the only reason now that I would need to have it removed would be cancer or medically needed. He told me that at this time that was not the case and did not need to be taken out.

Does this answer anything or am I more lost than ever?

My friend went with me and she basically got the same thing I did.

Vag cuff?

Did you have a vaginal hysterectomy definately not abdominal,if so Im so baffled as you shouldnt have a cervix,is there anyone else out there whos had a vaginal hysterectomy and kept their cervix,I just never thought you could because the cervix is a small thing at the bottom of your uterus and the uterus is a lot larger so to get the uterus out you have to loose the cervix ,am I correct ladies wow you have got my head spinning on this one, more research on the internet I think.you must be unique and thats a compliment,
love Hayley

Vag cuff?

Hi I posted on your other thread, too, because I am SO Confused!!

Here's what I thought and learned from reading. A vaginal cuff is in place of the closed cervix. So if you have a cuff...

I sure hope some other women post on this topic! Totally lost.

Which type of surgery did you have, exactly?
