surgery in 3 weeks. Yikes!

Hi all,
I'm new to this site but am finding it really helpful. My surgery is scheduled for March 1st and I'm having (I don't know the codes) an abdominal hyst. keeping the ovaries and cervix. I am very nervous. Had a myomectomy in '95 for fibroids and they are all back again. I'm tired all the time and having pain. Am questioning whether to do this but also know that it's the right thing. Any advice for the healing process would be appreciated. Chinia

Hi Chinia,

I'm having my Hyst. 2 days before yours......... and the closer the date comes, the more nervous I'm getting. I really think that I should be ok with surgery, I've had 2 C- sections..... an appendectomy, and I've had carpel tunnel surgery in both hands, so I should be used to being under a knife, right?? .... WRong!! hehe. But everyone that I've talked to said to get plenty of bed rest and that is the best way to heal from it. So I'm about to go pick up our tax refund check and go splurge on some new slippers, a cute robe that I saw at JC Pennys to wear at the hospital for when I have to go " walk " after surgery.... some dvd's and magazines to have when I'm " taking it easy" after surgery. I wish you well and pray everything goes great for you

Hi Chinia,

I had a abdominal hyst (TAH), and they also took my ovaries (BSO) and cervix on 11/26/04. The best advice I can give is take care of yourself and don't try to do too much. You need to listen to your body, if it hurts, don't do it, if you do something and then need to spend the next day on the couch, you've done too much.

It can be very hard to take it easy, especially if you are used to doing things for yourself or are an active person, but I have learned the hard way that there is a price to pay if you overdue.

Good luck with your surgery and take care.

Hi Chinia

It will take awhile to get back to yourself again but don't be afraid you will be yourself again. I can recall after surgury thinking will I ever be the same. You will be tired for awhile and have to take it slow and don't over do things. If you feel good one day don't think your all better and do too much as you'll pay the next. You will learn so much from reading here and ask anything you will get advice from someone who has been through the same feelings as you are experiencing. Wish you the best. Love, ((((STITCHER))))

surgery in 3 weeks. Yikes!

Hello Chinia,

My abdominal hyst. is February 27. To say I am not nervous would be a lie. However, 8 months ago I had brain surgery to remove a tumor. I drove myself absolutely crazy. Always fearing the worst. It could have been a devistating turn out, but I had the best surgeons and it made all the difference. I can't say that I would want to do it again, but it wasn't as bad as I had antisipated. Just remember that all of your worring is very hard on your loved ones too, specially children. Best of luck to you, and everyone else out there!
