I probably should have posted on the prayer board, but this place is home for me. I had a cold several weeks ago, nothing serious, but the cough just won't go away. For the last 4 days I have had pain in my chest that wraps all the way around my back. It gets worse when I cough, but is there all the time.
The scar tissue on my bladder must have grown again, because yesterday in the church parking lot, the pee just came, and I couldn't stop it. I wrapped my jacket around me, ran to the thrift shop across the street, bought new undies, and Mickey Mouse overalls size 14 girls, was all I could find. I got back in time for the meetings without any one knowing what had happened. Since the colostomy reversal surgery last June I have no normal bladder or bowel control. Before going out for the day I must jump up and down 20 times in the bathroom to empty my bladder and take a pill that stops my intestines from moving for several hours. The fear of having a public accident is never far from my mind, and thankfully no one knew what happened yesterday, but probably wondered why I had changed into such goofy clothes. can't let this fear make me a prisoner at home, stop me from serving and being with people. I am going to our family Dr tomorrow about the cough and chest pain, fearing the worst, but I have a full day ahead of me today, teaching religious ed to teens this afternoon and little kids tonight. I am afrain of having another accident, afraid what the Dr will say, and depressed. I feel like my family would be a lot better off without me, then with what is left of me. Sorry for venting so much

ON MY LIST

Never fear--you are on my list. I know what you're thinking but remember we get every little thing everyone does and we got before cancer. Now we think it's the cancer. It is still the same old normal stuff. So sorry about your accident--you've had tons of surgery there. I bet every woman on this board has had at least one. I wish your intestines worked right--I tend to diarrhea and hate that. WE NEED YOU on here and everyone you know needs and loves you--but I think I know where you are right now. Are you on an anti-depressant? If so, you may need s new one. I can't function without Celexa.

And this took several minutes to do one handed but I felt it was important.

Dear Debbie,

I'm so sorry to hear about your recent challenges, but the fact that you do everything you can to continue to serve god and your church family is an inspiration. It reminds us all that we cannot curl up and stop living.

I hope that the cough and chest pain is treatable. Maybe pneumonia or just a cold? Maybe some extra rest is needed until you can see the doctor.

Please keep us updated on what they find and how you're being treated. Like Ellen, I also believe that it's not cancer but is instead just something that regular people get also. :-)

I will definitely pray for you.

Debbie,

You are one great woman! I am sure you are a wonderful mother and teacher. Your family and community is blessed to have you among them.

Your family and friends are better off because you are around.

Let us know what happens at the docs office tomorrow

Debbie - hang in there. I have the bladder issue too - it's what took me to the Dr before my cancer was diagnosed and is worse since the bladder tack. My Drs have told me sometimes it gets better with time. I have been using the Poise pads - they are absorbent for both urine and odor.
Sad as it is, I usually keep a change of clothes in my car just in case. I also look at it as a temporary thing...it WILL get better.
My girlfriends all know about the problem - and we try to use humor (hard as it is but it does make things better). I have had a couple of crying jags from this too and I have friends who have bladder problems without cancer issues.
Make sure you have a really good urologist - I found one in my area that specializes in womens pelvic floor and urinary problems - and being a woman she is very empathetic and understanding.
Keep thinking it will get better, stay positive, and know how valued you are.
Hugs to you,
Jan

Hi Debbie,

I can tell you one thing for sure--we would never be better off without you!! .

Bladder problems are awful. I have MS and that is one of the fun things that I get to deal with as well--sometimes I think it's the worst thing from MS.

Please let us know what your doctor says, I hope it's just one of those lingering viruses that have been around a lot this winter. I'm praying for you!

Dear Debbie,

So sorry to hear about your concerns. Here's a prayer that your DR will figure it out quickly and take care of it! Let us know how your appt goes.

You do so much good for people, and that includes the people on this board.

We certainly would NOT be better off without you!

You're looking at the negatives right now, and we all know what cancerhead can do to our perspective. Please don't overlook the positives!

And as for bladder control....the other day I tripped over a phone cord, fell, hit the floor and ......well, luckily I was home and could change. Gotta get back to those Kegels!

Take care....

Blessings.

Hi Debbie,

I am fairly new here, but many times I have found your posts to be very valuable to me. I am also a vaginal cancer survivor and reading your posts have been very encouraging to me.

I am sorry you are having problems. I am sure the chest pain and cough is from some virus or something. The bladder problems are lousy. I constantly worry about the other side. Since radiation things have not been the same. When I gotta go - do not get in my way.

I just wanted to let you know that you do have a very wonderful, positive effect on people. Thank you for being here.
