MariaCoo, all updates in this thread..

hi Maria amd Adrie,

I am so glad to hear you are recovering nicely. after my exenteration in Aug 2002, I was in the hospital for 10 days and did not have a bowel movement for nine days after surgery. The dtr said that in part this was due to the lack of solid food and how cleaned out I had been before surgery, drugs etc. On the 9 th they tool me for an exray and it showeed a tiny bit of hardened poop ( sorry) was blocking the stoma. The nurse put a suppository into the stoma ewhich was painless and then things startted moving, Perhaps if you have a similar problem it could be interfering with blood flow to the stoma, I hope by now the Dr's have it all figured out and you won't need more surgery.
love + prayers to you both

Maria & Adrie--

Bless you both! Hope that stoma problem can be diagnosed and cleared up without further surgery.

Maria, you're in my prayers and thoughts every day. What an awesome thing it is to have women around the world thinking about you, writing to you, and praying for you by name, every day!

Adrie, a special word for you--Maria is so blessed to have you!
Stay strong, eat well, and keep healthy--she'll be needing you to do a lot for a while.

Hugs to both of you!

I'll get a group of great women praying for you. May that stoma just be tired from surgery and fix itself very soon. If you are hungry for hospital food, I am worried! You know how I feel on that topic. I thought it couldn't get worse--but the norning after my elbow surgery it sank as low as the Titanic! Can you feel me there in spirit? I am! Ellen

Dear Maria,

It is so nice that Cheryl and Adrie are helping us to all stay updated on you. It's so much better than someone going off for three weeks and not hearing from them.

I wish I knew something about stomas, but I do not. Some of the suggestions here seemed to make sense, but I'm sure your doctors will have sorted things out by now -- hopefully without causing you too much pain. Don't be afraid to ask for a ton of pain medication! And as others have said, don't be afraid to be as demanding as you want to be where the nurses are concerned.

Remember how we talked that one time about me smoking marijuana to quell my chemo nausea? Well, maybe a trip to a cafe that sells "brownies" will be something that you can look forward to! Of course, regular brownies are better. You definitely deserve some chocolate after all you've been through. But if you have pain or nausea, you can couple your chocolate with something "extra."

I don't know if you were on the boards or not when I mentioned it, but I got to go to the Grammys this year. Prince played, and Madonna was there, and all sorts of other people performed as well. I was resplendent in a green velvet coat. I know this doesn't have anything to do with your surgery, but I am trying to get your mind off of it. :-)

Maybe you can go to EuroDisney when this is all over! Or take another nice trip to someplace very relaxing. At minimum, you will need a big massage! I know it will help your body to feel better once you get out of the hospital.

We're all thinking about you, dear Maria! Many hugs for you!
