Hello Nervous,
I think they like to do it in the hospital so there is less risk of infection from a nick etc. They only did me a little bit and it was to stop the plaster from sticking after the surgery. Probably best if you are having abdominal surgery. Wow was I glad I'd had it done when it came to removing the tape from my tummy. I can understand your being nervous and full of all kinds of last minute questions. I wish you all the best for your surgery.

The decision is theirs and they will do it. They are professionals and do it without any fanfair. Bookfairy

I was shaved after I went under anesthesia...never knew it happened! I think they prefer to do it in hospital.

Don't shave yourself. They will do it if necessary. I heard of one lady whose surgery was postponed because she had nicked herself so bad, theywere worried about infection.

This is one of those "Ask your doctor" questions. Each Dr has their own preference. Mine told me not to shave anything down in that region for a whole week before surgery. It was driving me nuts! They only shaved a tiny bit right around the incision. And that was after I was out. Definately ask before doing anything.

I was told to shave the top 1 to 11/2 inches from the top before going in. (TAH/BSO)
