Pre-cancerous ovarian mass

I had a TAH/BSO January 27, 2004. The doctor removed a mass on one of my ovaries that was pre-cancerous. I was thrilled that it was discovered before any harm could me done. I was talking to a friend the other day and she asked me if I was going to get a second opinion. This had never entered my mind. Now I don't know if I should get one or not. The mass was completely removed. Does anyone out there have an opinion?

Thanks

Gail

Pre-cancerous ovarian mass

Gail

I had two large ovarian masses removed on 1-29-2004, mine are borderline cancerous, and my doctor will let me know if more treatment is necessary, But he did tell me he did not want me crying if he decided to do treatment, to me that was his way of telling what his decision will most likely be. My doctor is a specialist in ovarian cancer so I think that might make a difference in how they treat it, based on their own experiences.
But this was also my second doctor before surgery.

Pre-cancerous ovarian mass

Gail,
Last Nov. DR found a large mass on left ovary. I had a TAH/USO 2 weeks later. During my pre-op testing DR, my OB/GYN, had a CA125 done. It came back 36.5. Anything 35 and under is okay. This test is pretty flawed, but it's all they had. If it had come back with a much higher number, DR would had known.
By dissecting the tumor they found the cancer.
SO, did they do a CA125? And how do you feel? Would you feel better getting a second opinion?

Pre-cancerous ovarian mass

Hi Gail,

Was your surgeon an oncologist/gynocologist? If not, if it were me, I would get a second opinion from this expert in the field.

Getting a second opinion might also put your mind at ease.

Keep us posted.

Pre-cancerous ovarian mass

Gail,

I'd get a second opinion if it would make me feel more reassured. A gyn/onc certainly is a good source for that!

Blessings.

Pre-cancerous ovarian mass

s Gail

By calling your mass a precancerous mass, I am assuming your doctor means a borderline tumor or low malignant potential tumor.
Here is some info about this type diagnosis found on the Johns Hopkins web site.

Hopkins are the experts with this type pathology. And they are happy to give second opinions on pathology slides. I think this would be an excellent idea. Especially if your surgery and path results were not performed in a major cancer center.

Best wishes.
