Paravaginal defect?

Hi, ladies! It's been a long time since I've been able to post--home 'puter has been broken and I can't post on chatboards anymore on the work 'puter.

Anyway, I'm wondering if any of you might know what the symptoms/treatments are for a paravaginal defect. How is it diagnosed? At Thanksgiving time, I felt several tearing sensations across the lower abdomen, followed a week or so later by a ripping feeling that went from the crest of my hip bone across my abdomen diagonally. Now my front & side vaginal wall are all smushy and flat feeling. If I put my finger in there (sorry to be so graphic) it feels like there is something bulging down that I can push back up. My physical therapist said there is nothing she can do--just keep doing Kegels.

I've been to several in-network gyn's who say they cannot find anything wrong with my vagina support-wise--however, all of these exams have been done in lying down. My insurance company finally agreed to a "consultation" with an out-of-network pelvic floor specialist, so I'm on the waiting list for an appointment, which will probably take forever to get in.

I don't leak urine or b.m., although I sometimes have to put my finger in my vagina to get a b.m. going...I feel like I've hit the wall ...any advice is very much appreciated!

Paravaginal defect?

sounds like youre dealing with a rectocele...a gyn should be able to diagnose this upon a vaginal exam.

Paravaginal defect?

Thank you...none of the three gyn's I've seen mentioned a rectocele. I don't know if that is something that comes with a paravaginal defect. The last gyn I saw, the one who said he would get me in to a specialist, seemed to think the arcus tendineus (?spelling) has torn, leaving my vagina unsupposted on the right side.

The thing I don't understand is why all of the gyn's examined me lying down--wouldn't a prolapse be more evident sitting up?
