Oh no!!! I stretch in my sleep! Help please

I am 2 weeks post op today, have been doing very well with following the rules about not over doing anything, not lifting, not over extending to reach things, limited stairs, etc.

Then last night I woke to horrific abdominal pains to realize I was having a grand ole stretch with a twist tied in! OH Crap! The burning pain on my left side of my cut is unbearable. I took pain killers and held a cold cloth over my incision and cried! I have noticed my stretching in previous nights but have caught them before this, how do I sleep and behave at the same time?

Should I even be in a panic? Stretching can't be good for me right?
I had TAH with bikini cut if that matters.

Happy 2-week anniversary, it's mine, too! I also woke up to stretching. Our bodies must need it. But mine didn't hurt. In fact, when I realized I was stretching, I kept it up for a few minutes. I have already been stretching my legs, arms, shoulders, etc. but my back is what needs it. I don't see how it can be bad as long as it doesn't hurt. But if it does, you should call the Dr. and see if there are some stretches he/she recommends. Can you contract your abs yet? Once I have been able to do that, I find a lot of activity is possible that wasn't before.

It is so boring hanging out and not being able to do much of anything. No wonder we need stretching! Good luck and have a safe recovery.

Thanks for your reply! I don't know if stretching is bad or not -all I know is that something hurts this morning! My body needs a stretch sooo bad, I am a very active person normally so just this relaxing and taking it easy is getting painful!

I'm glad to hear you are doing well!

I don't think you can hurt yourself doing this, it seems pretty common post surgery. I remember doing this and waking up from sleep, as you did, and thinking, wow it feels so good to stretch!! It might hurt for the moment, but it is just your body's way of saying, "I need to move!".

Hi! I also had a TAH/BSO--bikini cut on January 23rd. I have found myself waking up and stretching also. It feels good and very natural. I can almost feel the muscles and ligaments setting themselves into the correct position that they need to be in.

I know it can seem scary and strange, but unless it hurts very badly, I really wouldn't worry too much. Our bodies are marvelously made and they have much to do to help us heal after such a major surgery.

If you do feel that this is hurting you though, please don't hesitate to call your doctor and ask about it. Good luck!
