Fluid Mass??

I am not sure if this is where I should post my question or not, but here goes. I went to my dr on Monday for my "yearly" and he told me two things the first thing he said was "I thought I took your overies out", he felt a cyst on my right side, and wanted me to go for a sonogram. The next thing out of his mouth was I am retiring on Friday! SO I leave there and find another dr on my insurance plan and made an appt for Wednesday. He scheduled the sonogram for today. He said I had a fluid mass at the top of the vaginal cuff. He thought it could a left over piece of overy or maybe a hemotoma. And I will probably need to have it removed. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Fluid Mass??

Dear Melissa,

I am sorry you are having to deal with this... and your doctor retiring. I hope you like the new doctor.

When a piece of ovary is left it is called an ovarian remnant. It can continue to function just like it did when the entire ovary was there. I recently had surgery and the doctor thought he found an ovarian remnant imbedded in my pelvic wall... it turned out not to be ovarian remnant but cystic endometriosis.

I am not sure about the hematoma. After my recent surgery they checked me for that because I started to have increasing pain. It turned out to be 300cc of blood in my pelvic cavity (just sloshing around). It was terribly painful and I had to have emergency surgery to have it removed.

I hope things work out OK for you. Keep us posted.
