Finally, a pre-op date...

I couldn't stand the wait any longer. So, I called the hospital today and asked about my pre-op. They gave me an appointment for the 3rd. (2 days before surgery). So, the lady whom I was speaking to said "this is for a TAH" I said, "yes, I am keeping my ovaries and tubes." She said, " no, that means everything." I said, "that is not what my Dr. told me." She said, in a nonchalant way, "well, you can always ask your Dr. again."
WHOA!! You can't put them back in if you take them out, right. She was kind of cavalier about it all. Like it was no big deal.
And, besides I thought that a TAH meant Uterus and Cervix and that removing your ovaries and tubes is called a Salpingo-Oophorectomy?
I hope the Doctors and nurses and caregiver and the Palace now more than this lady did.
But, I called my MD and left a message to talk to her about it.
Good Luck to all of us who will soon be on the other side.
My surgery is scheduled for 7:30 a.m., at the hospital by 6 so I shouldn't be to bad without the coffee.

Hi stumped

You are correct - a TAH does not involve removal of your ovaries and tubes - that procedure is a Salpingo-Oophorectomy (BSO if it's both sides or LSO for left side only or RSO for right side only).

At your pre-op the nurse should ask some detailed questions, based upon what the doctor's paperwork says - I remember that my pre-op nurse wanted to be sure that I did understand exactly what was going to be done. Hopefully there will be no discrepancy - if there is, be sure to call your doctor again.

I'm a coffee drinker, too, and was very glad that I had an early surgery. It does help with the caffeine withdrawal.

Let us know what you find out when you talk to your doctor.

You'll be in my thoughts and prayers for a successful and uneventful surgery and recovery.

I will certainly keep you posted on what the doctor has to say about it.
