any words of wisdom

hello all, I am scheduled for a TAH, abdominal paravaginal suspension, and a Burch bladder suspension on 3/3/04. Just went to my pre-op on Friday and now i think its really hit me that this is really going to happen. On the day before surgery i am only allowed to eat breakfast and drink clear liquids so its going to be a long day. I also have to "clear my bowels" if you know what I mean. I had been hoping to go out to dinner with my DH and have some quiet time to try and relax, but i don't think that is going to happen. Has anyone out there had these other procedures done and do they add to the recovery time? I am only 26 and have two small kids, so the thought of having the hyst was unbelievable at first, now I am ok with it, but its going to be hard, because i won't be able to lift a thing for 12 weeks or i could risk having to do this all over again. I can't even lift my baby (18 months) which anyone with kids will understand how hard that is going to be especially when no one else is around. I just know that as soon as i am alone with her she will fall and get hurt and my first instinct is to pick her up. So just getting nervous and I don't think that anyone else out there knows what this feels like unless they are going through it or have been there. Even my DBF who i love can't make me feel any better or less anxious, she tries. so any advice and words of wisdom will be appreciated.
Thanks

Jennifer

Oh dear .. the waiting is the worst part . I have two kids and because DH is unable to get prolonged leave ( they have limited leave for compassionate matters ) , I had to manage alone .I got exhausted and from personal experience if you ave anyone who can pop in and get meals done or sweep the floor etc that will be a great help

Hi Jennifer,

I know there are other women here who have had the Burch procedure. One way to find them is to do a search using the "search" button at the top of this screen. Enter the keyword "Burch" and you'll receive a list of threads where this topic is mentioned. That way you can find other women who have had this done.

You can do the same type of search on "paravaginal suspension" to locate others who have had this procedure.

It's pretty common to be asked to "cleanse" your bowels prior to surgery, although not everyone has to do this. So much depends on the reasons for your surgery, the extent of the procedures they have planned, and your doc's preferences. Be sure to follow orders to the letter, okay?
