When/why start HRT?

New to this phase of the cycle. Had SAH/BSO on 2/20/04. My Dr put me on Oys Cal/Vit D but no HRT. She says at 2 wk check, we'll talk about Premarin...I currently have no symptoms but do know they can start at anytime. What can I expect? What if I never have any symptoms, is HRT still necessary? So much depends on your age, your medical history, the reason for your hyst ...

The main reason for taking HRT is to relieve menopausal symptoms (night sweats, hot flashes, mood swings) and to protect your bones from osteoporosis.

The symptoms you are likely to experience as your estrogen is depleted are: night sweats, hot flashes, mood swings, depression. Estrogen is stored in fat cells and it could be several weeks before your body is completely depleted. Or it might be just a few days ... Each of us is a little different. And the older you are and the closer you are to menopause, the milder your symptoms may be. Younger gals produce more estrogen, so they are most likely to suffer the more severe menopausal symptoms.

Hope this helps a little. You are very early in your recovery, so the key right now is to rest, , drink lots of liquids, rest some more, etc. Take care and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Thanks Beth. FYI, I'm 44 and was dx w/endo stg 3 and LG fibroid (20cm). My mom died of ovarian cancer (53yo)
