Ande,

I take effexor for depression, and i have had no side effects. I do still get hot flashes, but not that many, so I guess it works for that too! good luck with it!

Effexor

I have been taking Effexor for 6 years for depression due to my Parkinson's and have literally no side effects. My dose is low - one 37.5 mg tablet per day.

Hope this gives you a reference point.

Effexor for Hot Flashes

I have been on Effexor since January 2004. It was prescribed for nite sweats and hot flashes, which are the result of a TAH ( both ovaries, tubes and cervix) for endo cancer. I experienced only one day of dizziness and sleepiness, but nothing since. The hot flashes have subsided, but not all together. I get through the nite only waking up once or twice. I take 37.5 mg twice a day. My sister (BC and OC 2002) also is on it 75 mg once a day, and she calls it her happy pill. I have noticed that I do not stress over things like I used to, and will be seeing the GYN in a month to discuss staying on it. Neither of us can take HRT due to our cancer..
I would think that your side effects would diminish soon, but if not, contac your DR.
