catheter ugh....

Hello ladies...
I am post op 2-17-04, TVH, bladder sling, and rectoseal, and I still have my catheter....Have any of you experienced this... I feel I am full of stitches inside, and can't pass my bladder trial to get my catheter out.. 3rd try Friday 3-5-04... I am on antibiotics to keep me from getting an infection, and that has worked so far... have any of you experienced this, where you couldn't pass the water that they fill your bladder with... I can release less than halfl, but am retaining over half in my bladder with great pressure urges, but nothing happens...(my boyfriends advice: drink a ton of water before going to appt., then hope that some of that with what they fill me up with, will pass the test)...
Any help would be appreciated...

catheter ugh....

To Catheter ugh:
I know how you feel. Had surgery on 1/13/04, tah with bladder repair (sling). Came home from hospital with catheter had catheter in place for 8 days...still failed bladder test. Was taught how to self catherize with straight catheter. Did this for 26 days and still had major urine retention. Just had sling revision on 2/19/04 (ambulatory in hospital). Now thank God, everthing seems to be working. I will never take going to the bathroom for granted ever again. Hang in there, it should get better.

catheter ugh....

Hi
I had my Lavh+bladder and rectum work on Fri 13th Feb. My catheter was in and out for 11 days (with 2 visits to emergency room). I was getting very fed up with it as everything else seemed to be going fine. "Peeing" was very difficult and painful for me. My first bladder fill up test with the doctor was a complete disaster! I drank lots and lots before the visit, but that just came out into the cath before I got into the DR's room! I only pee'd out a fraction of what he put into me. I went home with no catheter but ended up in the emergency room that night as my bladder was so full and painfull. Anyway on the 11th day, and yet another bladder fill up test, I managed to Pee out more than he had put into me. From then on I have been catheter free I can now pee with no pain or tingling. Once I had passed my first good amount, I cut down on my drinking as I didn't want to put too much strain on my bladder. And everyday is getting nearer to being normal.
Once your swelling from your op goes down than it will be alot easier for you. Just hang on in there. Take care of yourself and have a good and speedy recovery
