dysplasia treatment confusion
Hi,
It's been a few months since I posted, but I'm hoping some of you may be able to help me out again. I had a LEEP in July 2003 for moderate cervical dysplasia and the margins were clear. I also had a LEEP in 2001 and cryotherapy in 1998 to remove mild dyplasia.
My most recent repap in February showed mild dyplasia again. I had a colposcopy and biopsy last week, and the results came back today as mild. Here's the strange part: My gynecologist recommends a TCA treatment once a week for three weeks to make the cervix shed the abnormal cells. From what I've read, TCA is an acid treatment only used for external genital warts, which I don't have! Have any of you heard of TCA treatments for treating cervical dyplasia? I'm uncomfortable with the doctor's recommendation, and I've left a message with her to discuss my concerns.
Please let me know your thoughts. As tired as I am of dealing with mild/moderate abnormal cells for the past six years, I don't want to treat them with something that is uncommon and/or risky.
Thanks!
