My first official pre op was interesting. We talked again about my medical history, he just wanted to be sure that he understood it all. It's complicated, he says...just want to make sure we don't make any mistakes. He's happy that I have the appointment with psych next week, and sees no problems with the surgery going through as planned. Psych is the last thing to be checked off the list, as far as insurance goes.

Then we start talking about my bladder leakage. He wants to run some tests on the 23rd, which means I get to be catheterized and he'll ...well, you don't want the gory details, but it's not gonna be pleasant. He gave me this container to measure my urine output for 2-3 days...and I get to keep a journal of when, how often and how much I urinate or leak. Fun, huh? Anyway, looks like I'll probably get a bladder sling while I'm open. Speaking of being open, he said he'll probably have to use a vertical incision, for less risk of infection and so he can see everything. This will make for a longer initial recovery, but iI have friends and a wonderful DH to help me through that! Lessee, what else...oh, they're going to put me on the post surgical ward, and not in maternity (some hospitals do that with their hysterectomy patients...isn't that awful?), so I'm very excited about that. And the most iexciting thing is that he's going to use On-Q. I'm willing to take the risk even knowing that I have so many med allergies, because I'll be properly monitored. Anything for less pain, right? Oh, and the endometriosis has been upgraded to Stage 5. That's pre cancerous, in case you were wondering. Not a fun place to be, but it explains a whole lot.

Anyway, things are moving right along...25 more days and a wake up until I go to the castle....woohooo.

Hi Jalynne,

It sounds as if your doctor is being very through and careful, and that's great, except I'm sorry that you have to have some additional tests for your bladder problems. hope it will not be too uncomfortable for you.

My first official pre op

I have an awesome fact..the one before him was even better, and wish he hadn't got transferred to Alaska, but he left me in good hands. If you want a chuckle...I made a little wallhanging for the GYN that went to Alaska. I may make one for this one, too...after surgery. Anyway, to look at the GYN quilt, here's the link.

Scroll about 3/4 down. If you click on the pic, you'll get detailed views. Enjoy!

((( Jalynne )))

Thank you for sharing your quilts - I wish that I could see them even closer, because they are absolutely lovely in the photos and I know they are even more so in real life. The one for your Gyn is great!! I'll bet he was thrilled to receive it.
