Information on cervical cancer staging and treatment

Janie,
Your confusion is understandable as the thought of skip lesions is counterintuitive. In a skip lesion, the cancer does not spread through the tissue.

For example, it pops up in one part of the cervix, then another part of the cervix, but these two areas are not physically connected.

It is relatively common for cervical cancer to spread to pelvic lymph nodes, but only if all the cancer is "connected".

skipping

The doctor described my cancer as "skipping" much in the same way that a rock would skip on the water. For some strange reason, the cancer by-passed everything else inside and jumped straight to the lymph nodes. It isn't uncommon for it to spread to the lymph nodes but in doing so, normally the entire cervix and other areas would be involved with cancer....and in my case they found nothing (the cone removed all traces). My gyn/onc said that the cancer I have is not behaving in any texbook fashion.

550 kms is about 300 miles, so a 5 1/2 hour drive on the highway. I'll have to stay out there for my radiation & chemo. It'll be tough but I'll get through it. Fortunately I do have family and a handful of friends there to help me out.

Once I know more about this "skipping" thing, I'll start a new post to see if there are others like me.
