Trouble after rectocele repair

I had a hyster about 7 years ago. Four months ago I had to have a rectocele repair done. Sex is still extremely painful and I bleed each time. I was just wondering if anyone else went through this and to please here it gets better.

Trouble after rectocele repair

Hi CCapeas and welcome to Hyster Sisters I'm so sorry that you found us because you've been having these problems

I had a rectocele repaired at the same time as my TVH, in December 2000. I remember that, in the early weeks after my surgery, I had a lot of pain in the perineal area. This would easily be managed with extra strength Tylenol. I also had that awful brownish discharge for 11 weeks after my surgery and my GYN confirmed that it was due to the extra healing taking place following the repair.

One of the thing my GYN did, at my 6 week post-op appointment, was to cauterize a bit of granulation. It wasn't causing any pain but was responsible for most of the on-going bleeding.

Have you mentionned these problems to your doctor? If not, a call, and even a visit might be in order. Sometimes, those problems are easily corrected.

BTW, I do remember that my doctor warned me not to strain or lift anything too heavy, in order to protect the repairs. And these restrictions are permanent.

Sending lots of s your way and hoping that you feel better real soon. Please keep us posted.

Trouble after rectocele repair

I was wondering if you had any external sutures after your rectocele repair. I spoke with my doc about pain with intercourse after rectocele repair and he said he does a front to back repair, no external sutures & that helps with the pain with intercourse issue. Anyone else able to give us input on this? Thanks

Trouble after rectocele repair

I had a rectocele repair and did have external stitches that dissolved. Just had my 6-week checkup today. Am still a little tender in that area & still somewhat swollen inside. Doctor said it could take another 6 weeks for all the swelling to go down.
