bladder & colon adhesions?

I've been reading the various posts & wondered if anyone had advice for me. I had SAH Jan 03. Everything just wonderful for 8 months post-op. Then, severe pain began inside right hip last Sept. Many tests ran & family physician saw a large ovarian cyst on right side with a C-Scan. Immediately, that was made the diagnosis & sent to OB/GYN. After several months of watching the Cyst with Ultra sound, it was determine the pain was NOT from the Cyst. The cyst kept shrinking as the pain keeps growing, and more Vicodin is needed!

Then, on Xmas Eve, by accident, the Ultra Sound technician noticed that my bladder was enormous even though I had just gone to the restroom. So, OB/GYN sent me to Urologist. Been seeing him for several months now, and many unpleasant tests & he has confirmed that my bladder won't empty properly & that this condition is very painful, but can't explain why I have this.

Colon cancer runs in my family so I get Colonoscopy every year. With my last Colonoscopy the doctor said that I definitely have many adhesions on my colon and that it is very hard for him to check my colon because of all the twists & turns in it.

My family doctor has now suggested that I see a General Surgeon to determine whether this is adhesions, hernia, or both. However, nothing seems to fit my symptoms that I read. I have a bladder that causes extreme pain & won't empty, and I have extreme irritable bowels with this odd "burning sensation" in my lower back that comes with my extreme pain. None of my specialists seems to know what this lower back burning sensation is. It makes me very uncomfortable that Colon Specialist, OB/GYN & Urologist all can't explain all my pain & symptoms, other than to acknowledge that "yes, something isn't right!"

Has anyone heard of any adhesion symptoms like this? It seems that I must have adhesions choking off my bladder & affecting my colon. But, this won't be confirmed until my General Surgeon goes in there. How scarey! This whole thing is a nightmare. My other question is, .. how many of you have had your adhesion surgeries done by a General Surgeon? I feel somewhat abandoned by my OB/GYN.

Thanks so much for listening. I always value advice from my Hyster Sisters!

bladder & colon adhesions?

Hey, sweetie. So sorry for the pain and the aggravation of not having a simpler option than surgery. I did have adhesions removed in January by my Gyn and one of his Gyn partners. My Gyn has had some loss of vision due to health issues of his own, but he was there to "call the shots". I'd have felt abandoned, if he'd have shipped me off to a general surgeon. My Gyn, however, has had extra training in pelvic surgeries and well, he's just special.

Could be that your Gyn is doing the right thing and admitting now that he/she's not skilled enough to do the surgery. So, perhaps this is just your best option under the circumstances. Perhaps your Gyn would be willing to "assist" in the surgery?

My adhesions caused pain, especially around ovulation and at end of cycle. My left ovary was adhered to the pelvic side wall and so when it would need to move, yeah...ouch. I also had some problems after the hyst with bladder spasms that I attribute to the forming of adhesions that were also removed in January.

If I were in your shoes, I would go meet the general surgeon and see if he/she makes your feel comfortable, answers your questions and seems intelligent and well skilled. I hope he/she is all of these things and that together you form a plan for resolving your issues!!

Until then, lots of s
