supra cervical hysterectomy

My Dr. is leaving my cervix. Has anyone had this done and if so, have you had any problems with the cervix prolapsing? I have seen a couple of websites where women had this problem a couple of years after the hyst. Of course, I will also ask my Dr. about this. Thanks!

supra cervical hysterectomy

Hi Teri,

We have lots of women here who have had supracervical hysts. Some have been done as laparascopic supracervical hysts, and others required abdominal incisions.

I can't say that I recall anyone posting about having a cervical prolapse after their surgery, but I imagine that could be possible. To find other posts where supracervical hysts are mentioned, try doing a search (use Search button at the top of this screen) on the keyword "SAH" or on "laparoscopic hyst."

Sending hugs your way.

Supra Cervical Hysterectomy

To SoonerFan66:
Hi,I'm patybear.I had a supra cervical hysterectomy 08/19/03.Both ovaries were left.So far I haven't
experianced any major problems.I still get P.M.S.(without the M),due to the ovaries being left in place, but thats it.
As for the P.M.S;I just tell the D.B.F. to duck, run,or get the ****
out of the way.I hope this answers your question.

supra cervical hysterectomy

I had an SAH.

No problems here. My doc also does pelvic reconstructive surgeries, and tells me that everything is better supported after hysterectomy with the cervix left in place along with its ligaments.

The only complaints I've read from other SAH patients is "mini-periods" if some endometrial tissue is left behind and they've kept their ovaries. You might want to ask your doctor how he/she will handle this (usually they cauterize the tissue).

I heard the same info as tijunkie, my dr. explained that your least likely to have a prolapse because you no longer have your uterus sitting on top of your cervix. I had a SAH on 12/10/03, best thing I ever did.

supra cervical hysterectomy

Hi Soonerfan66,
I live in Edmond. I was scheduled for a TAH and ended up having a SAH due to much scar tissue. I am very pleased with the outcome as I did want to keep my cervix. I had read extensively that the risk of prolaps was higher if the cervix was taken out. I also had read that sex was different and that orgasm was more difficult to achieve without the cervix. I am just past the 3 week mark and am feeling quite well. My problems came on quite suddenly and the whole hysterectomy thing took me by surprise. I am very happy to say that I feel better than I have in a long time and am so glad to have the surgery behind me. Another advantage to leaving the cervix is that you will not have to have a cervical cuff. From what I have read, it is a much more painful recovery. Good luck to you.
