Cone say day as TAH?

I saw my surgeon Wed. 3/17/04. We set up my TAH for 3/24/04. Friday he called me and told me that he had gotten more info from my reg. gyn and that he would be doing a cone 3/24. If it is NOT cancer, we will proceed with the TAH. If it IS ca 'that's a whole other ballgame'. Of course, I was caught off guard and had no idea what to ask or say. Has anyone got any thoughts on this?

Cone say day as TAH?

They will do the cone as a diagnositic tool. What they are concerned with is if you have invasive cancer and if so they have to decide how they want to proceed. If the lesion is found totally contained in the cone, I am not sure why they would continue to do a hyst unless there is another you are having it.

cone/TAH

GentleMyst: Sounds like the same thing that happened to me. I was initially set up the have a TAH following a LEEP procedure (adenocarcinoma in situ was diagnosed). After my GYN reviewed my case with the ONC/GYN, it was decided that they would do a cone first to determine how they would proceed with the Hysterectomy. If the cancer is invasive, the surgery is different in that they remove lymph nodes, ovaries, etc. In my case, the cone revealed clear margins (cancer contained). After that, I had to wait about 6 weeks and then I had a TAH. (kept ovaries).

Best wishes to you!!!

Thanks!

Thank you all for your responses. I hope I don't have to wait another 6 weeks for the TAH. But, as the Lord wills!
