And, It's a 44!

Dear Hyster-Sisters,

And I am thrilled to bits about my new CA 125 number. I had the test done last week, and got the results today when I went to my gyn/onc. appt.

It has gone from a high of 2358 in April 2003, to my last CA 125 test before this one - in Sept. 2003 - of 70 - and now to 44. I know that it is not at the cut-off number of 35, BUT!!! Maybe my last 3 chemos - done on a 3 week schedule - finally did the job. When I asked my gyn/onc today if the number could still fall, without any chemos now, he said that it could. My next appt. with him is in 2 months.

And, the best thing! I am finally beginning to feel some real emotion now after this afternoon's appt. This is scary, by the way! It means that I am vulnerable, once again. I still need to subsume what I have heard, but after 4 or 5 years of trying or needing to hold my emotions in check, which I failed miserably at, I felt a real emotion today. For me, this is beautiful, BUT I now recognise that it is not something for others to manipulate if they recognise my vulnerability. Nothing will ever convince me that my OVCA was caused by nothing else but stress. It was unmitigated in my life for a number of years here.

According to my gyn/onc, my cancer "is sleeping". !!!

Dear Wild Rose....I am so happy for you. With your starting CA125 of 2358 and now 44 you have every reason to be happy.
44 is only 9 away from 35. Please feel those emotions, it may make you feel so much better.

And, It's a 44!

Dear Wild Rose,

What a triumph! Can they give you just a little more chemo to push that little number down a bit more? :-) What if the number just hangs at 44 for the next five years? Is that good? I don't know what a number correlates to in terms of what's up on the inside. Some people with my DX had a number of 3000, while mine was 161. I think it has to do with the amount of protein that the cancer sheds, but you know what? I am just guessing. Someone help out.

Anyway, many congratulations! I hope you are able to watch that number fall or remain constant for MANY years to come!

Dear Wild Rose, What terrific news! I didn't realize that your # was up over 2300! That's some great movement. Here's hoping your cancer is sleeping the sleep of Rip Van Winkle and beyond!
