finding a willing doctor

I'm a rookie at this, so bear with me. Just joiined today! I am just now starting to research bioidentical hormones. I've been taking 1/2 a Premarin .625 pill each day for several years. I also have hypothyroidism and take Synthroid every day. I'm really interested in pursuing a more natural hormone therapy. I checked with my doctor to see if she would work with me, but said that she would only prescribe FDA-approved hormones. How do I find a doctor willing to work with compouding? Also....are the compounds usually covered by insurance?

So glad I found this site! I'm not alone anymore!!!

One of the best ways I know to find a doctor who prescribes compounded hormones is to go to a compounding pharmacy. Tell the pharmacist that you would like a few names of doctors in the area that prescribe compounded hormones or is willing to work him him.

They know who the doctors are...because they work directly with them to tweak the dosages.

Ask. They are usually very helpful to get you on the way!

Kathy,

Thanks for the tip. I know of a local compounding pharmacy right down the street.

Thanks!

Thats what I did. Called the compounding pharmacy. They were VERY helpful. I just got back from my first new Dr visit. He is Family Practice, but he actually listened to me...understood me...and did blood work. I feel "heard" for the first time! WooHoo! Yippee! I am gonna make it! Laura

Estradiol pellet implantion

Hi, I had my appointment with the nurse practioner for the bio-identical natural hormones today and she ends up telling me that they do these implants of hormone pellets. HELP!!!!!!!! Somebody please tell me this works. I had her explain it to me but I have not heard of this ever. Are their any of you going this route? She gave me some literature to read over but I want to know if any of you are taking your hormones this way. She told me that it has a great success for helping the hormone problems. Thanks, Pam
