Update on Biking Jeff

Sweet Linda of Quiltcrazy fame asked me to post an update on Jeff and his biking journey. Well, no need to ask me twice!!

Jeff will be reaching New Orleans by Thursday. Yes, he is over half way home. And has only had one flat tire thus far on the return trip. The New Orleans NOCC chapter is planning some welcome events for Jeff, along with media coverage. So the words ovarian cancer are continuing to get recognition.
My younger son Tim, who just turned 21, is flying to New Orleans to meet up with his older brother for a long weekend. I know Tim is looking forward to seeing Jeff as well as visit Bourbon St.
Jeff's web journal is behind due to a lack of high speen internet access. But he is still keeping his journal and at some point it will be posted!! Jeff plans to reach home by mid May. ANd he begins a surgical rotation July 1st!!!!

I leave tomorrow for part II of the legislative training as taught by the Ovarian Cancer Natl Alliance. Perhaps I'll get further news on ovacheck. Everyone please remember to sign the ovarian cancer awareness stamp petition as well as get your representative to sign onto Johanna's Law. We need 100 reps to sign on before it moves onto the Senate.

Update on Biking Jeff

Dear Karenanne,
You and your family are an inspiration. I just went to the government website and wrote a letter to my congressman and urged him to vote for Johanna's Law. I hope all goes well for your son in his journey.

Just sent my letters off to Senator Dianne Feinstein and Rep. Henry Waxman. Thanks for the reminder! :-)

Yay, Jeff! Please give him a hug for me. I know your other son will love New Orleans. Yeee-ha!

Update on Biking Jeff

I just wanted to make a minor modification to the update Karenann provided on the status of Johanna's Law. When I recently spoke to my congressman's office, his health staffer advised me that they were working to get 100 members of the House to sign on as cosponsors before the House Subcommittee on Health, where the bill is currently pending, will be asked to hold public hearings on the bill. After the hearings, and before the bill can move on to the Senate, it will have to be voted on by the full House--all 435 members--and pass in the House before the bill is referred to the Senate for their consideration and vote.

As of today, Johanna's Law has 82 cosponsors in the House of Representatives, and another 18 are needed before the House hearings will be scheduled. So please keep the letters and phone calls to your congressmen and congresswomen coming, so that Johanna's Law can become law as soon as possible!

Am I famous??? I didn't think so...

Thanks for the update on Jeff. I'm glad to hear that his journey back home is going so well. I'm so thankful for all that your family is doing to spread the awareness. You both seem to have a special kind of magic that teaches and comforts those of us who have or are suffering. Thanks for all that you do...

I look forward to reading Jeff's journal when he gets it updated. He has a gift when it comes to writing...and his photography is awesome!! He should consider publishing his journal when he completes it!
