Question about mamogram...

Yeah after my first mammogram, I had that letter. Part of the problem with younger women is that they have denser breasts which means it's harder for them to be sure what they are looking at. Postmenopausal women's breasts are easier to "see through." And with a first mammogram, there is no comparison to see if things are changing, another thing they look for.

Since a routine mammogram is a simple two views or so of each breast, this is just to get more and more detailed views.

I remember the first one I had, something showed up with one angle and then it vanished at another angle. They couldn't figure it out so I had view after view. Finally they sent me for a sonagram. With that, it wasn't there at all.

Whatever was causing them problems, I've never heard about it since because now they just compare the mammogram I get now with the one I got then and say, hey, nothing's changed.

So that's probably why it was an impersonal letter. To them all it means is that you are younger and denser and they need more detail just to be sure that they know what they are looking at. Of course, the other problem is just if you breathe at the wrong time, the image isn't as clear. I got called back in for that once too (bad I breathed )
