Scared of Surgery!

Hello! First post on the board, so I guess I'm a virgin (grin). Am scheduled for LAVH (keeping right ovary) on 4-8, and looking forward to life after surgery--have had endo for 25 years, and now have fibroids and ovarian cysts, with heavy bleeding, pain, and on and on we go....
Anyway, to make a long story short, I have what is called malignant hyperthermia, which can kill me quick if they use the wrong anesthetic. Almost happened when I was 16. So, I am really scared of the surgery itself. Any advice? I have talked to my dr and he says that times have changed, things are different, blah, blah, blah, but I do have a DH and 2 DDs.
Thanks for listening!

Scared of Surgery!

chef2die4 - can you meet with a/the anethesologist to discuss your concerns and how they plan on addressing malignant hyperthermia. I can appreciate what the doctor said about how far medicine has come - but I can also appreciate more YOUR NEED TO KNOW. TO me it sounds like you could really benefit from a sit down face to face discussion. Personally, on matters of great importance - I have found making a list first b/4 the meeting. Seems *if* I don't organize my questions first - I always leave out a critical question....

This is a great place to share and there are a lot of great hyster-sisters ears here....

Peace and my thoughts will be you...

Scared of Surgery!

I was an AF wife (and proud of it still) for 8 years (1989-1997). Started out at WPAFB in Ohio, and now we are BA-ACK! (DH lost his high tech job 2 years ago in pac nw). Maybe we are long-lost sisters--I was adopted!
Thanks for your encouragement!

Scared of Surgery!

Hi (((Heather))) and a warm welcome to Hystersisters. As you've seen, some of the wonderful women who frequent this site have already responded to you. You will find the women of HS eager to share their experiences and always there to comfort and/or just listen to you. Once you become a you too may want to share your experiences with those who follow you. As a newbie LIW, if you have not yet found the pre-op articles, please click on the following link:
If you like, you might also want to peruse the post-op articles and they are found below:
I am not familiar with your medical condition, but I strongly endorse the suggestion you make an appointment with the anesthesiologist and discuss this with him/her prior to your surgery date. FYI, I cannot have any meds which are know to/suspect in triggering pancreatitis which can be life-threatening. Despite listing this problem on all forms and telling hospital personnel about it, my anesthesiologist apparently was unaware of it. He only learned about it when I mentioned the med prob as he approached me on op-day and minutes before my surgery and he had to redo the meds. So please talk with your A-man before op day and you also can bring it up again when you see him just prior to your operation. Better safe than sorry. BTW, if your problem can be affected by other meds too, please be certain your doctors, nurses know this.
Hope you come here often with any questions, to ease possible fears, get informed, vent, etc. s and blessings, peggiesue
