I had heard that if you have endo you should avoid tofu and ssoy products. I had a complete hyst (no ovaries) 12/16/03 for bad endo- still having pain.... I am a vegetarian and rely a lot on soy for my protein- does anyone know the truth to this whole thing? I have tried to read the posts but i get so confused because some seem to advocate taking it because it turns to estrogen...but I thought that's why I shouldn't use it????

I think I would use it warily--that is keep an eye out for any symptoms. For one thing soy protein does not concentrate the phytoestrogens. For another, phytoestrogens are not estrogens. They are chemicals that do some of the same things and block others. There is some thought that perhaps they act the way that raloxifene or tamoxifen work--as anti-estrogens.

Basically no one knows the answer, but eating the protein is a much lower concentration than soy in a pill.

It IS confusing! All we can do is give something a try and pay close attention to how we react to it. But you also might focus more on some alternatives to soy--rice/beans combos etc.
