Dysplasia Again.....

Had my pap and colposcopy. Good news is that the biopsy was negative, but low grade dysplasia evident again. Obviously leep did not get rid of it all. Dr. wants me to try and become pregnant (I am 38) but I thinkj it is time to see gyn/ob gyn. for monitoring of dysplasia. I imagine that this condition will not go away and it is only a matter of time before I will need to consider a hysterectomy. My Dr. wants another colposcopy on 3 months, but again I feel that it is prudent for me to seek other opinion. They are suppose to monitor closely for 3 years, and since it has only been 5 months since leep and dysplasia is back (previously I was loaded with high grade) I guess my condition is not deemed cured. Any thoughts?

Dysplasia Again.....

(((Neesey))) I'm sorry you've gotten bad news.

Is your doc a family physician then? Or are you seeking a second opinion with a gyn/onc? I was not clear on your meaning. Absolutely--a second opinion is in order anytime you are uncomfortable about your health situation.

So, did your biopsy show low-grade dysplasia then? If so, it wasn't negative. And if it shows low-grade dysplasia, either one of two things happened: either they didn't get all of the abnormal cells with the LEEP in the area in which it was performed, or you've sprouted a new area of abnormal cells. Rats! How frustrated you must feel!

In addition to the second opinion, you might like to look toward increasing your immune function to see if your body can fight this thing off. Low-grade dysplasias can sometimes be gotten rid of without a medical procedure. Remember to get lots of rest. Eat well. Take a multivitamin (folic acid may help your body fight off this situation). Exercise moderately. Pray/meditate/do yoga. Don't smoke. All of these things are believed to help improve your immune function, which in turn will help you fight this off. And keep going for those regular PAP's. You'll want to monitor this closely.

Good luck! I will be keeping you in my thoughts and 'ers.
