post op-ovarian cancer

I HAD MY SURGERY AND THE DOCTOR FOUND A RARE FORM OF OVARIAN CANCER. HE TOLD MY FAMILY THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO SEND THE SAMPLE TO A LAB AND WOULD NOT GET THE RESULTS UNTIL 4/01/04. THE TUMOR ON MY LEFT OVARY WAS THE SIZE OF AN ORANGE.
I AM FEELING BETTER EVERY DAY, HOWEVER I'M STILL LOSING WEIGHT NOW 119LBS. I'VE LOST ABOUT 7LBS IN A WEEK. IS THAT NORMAL. ALSO WHAT ARE THE CHANCES THAT I WILL NEED CHEMO TREATMENT?
THANK YOU FOR ALL OF THE INFORMATION. IT HELPED ME BEFORE I WENT TO THE CASTLE TO GET AN IDEA OF WHAT TO EXPECT.
LOVINGLY,
DONNA

Rare form of Ovarian Cancer found

Oh Donna, I'm so sorry they found cancer. But maybe it's all contained and they got it and nothing will have to be done. That will be my prayer for you. I have faith that the Lord will bring you through this. I had my surgery the same day as you but I'm assuming mine was benign since no ones told me otherwise. I'm sure part of your weight loss is from anxiety and worry and I've found that I just don't have much of an appetite since my surgery, but I know I haven't lost 7 lbs. I'm not going to weigh for a few more days and maybe I will have lost something!! Please have faith and listen to your Docs but question...question....question.....if you feel something isn't right. You can always get a second opinion. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Thanks

Thanks for reminding me that God will be with me. I know it but sometimes allow myself to get nervous and don't focus on the fact that he will be there.
Thanks

Dear Donna,

So sorry to hear about your surgery results....but as our wise Ellen always says, "don't waste a good panic." It's hard to have to wait for results--but once you have them then you and your DRS can form a plan of action.

Weight loss can have lots of causes, and not necessarily sinister ones. When I came home from the hospital, I was eating lots, doing nothing, and losing. But I'm sure my body was using up every calorie for healing purposes. Perhaps it's the same with you. And anxiety can also play a part in this.

We're with you Donna...keep us informed. You're being kept in prayer.

Blessings.

Donna,

I will be praying for you.

"So, do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphld you with my righteous right hand."
Isaiaha 41:10

I hope you find comfort in the answer from fellow sisters here. Just my two cents sending blessings your way.

Rare form of Ovarian Cancer found

Donna,

I hope you've had a chance to read some more in hystersisters and feel encouraged.

There are all sorts of cancers, and all sorts of treatments for them. And as you read through the experiences of women here, you discover that sometimes the same person will have different treatments at different times, depending on her response to the chemos.

Hearing the word "cancer" can be very freaky when you realize it's part of your diagnosis, and not someone else's, but please take heart--as a wise woman once said to me , "Cancer is just a word. Not a sentence."

We'll all be waiting to hear what you find out on 4/1. Meanwhile, keep on posting and reading here. We're at your side in this!

Blessings.

Rare form of Ovarian Cancer found

Hi Donna, I am a newbie, just read your post, I hope everything goes well, my thoughts are with you. I too am losing weight, nearly a year after surgery, I have to go and get an ultra-sound done after Easter, as i have an enlarged left ovarie ( still have both), when the surgen operated on me ( total Hysterectomy).

He removed several cycsts, but he warned me to have a yearly check ups for ovarian cancer, know i am very concerned, as i wish he just removed both ovaries or just the left one. But oh well, i am just two young he said.

If any one has any advice, or has gone through the same thing, would appreciate some helpfull advice , thankyou.
(BIG HUG TO DONNA).

Rare form of Ovarian Cancer found

Dear Donna,

I also have Ovarian Cancer. My surgery was last September. After my surgery I lost exactly 50 pounds in 5 weeks. I was so scared but my doctor said the weight loss was from all the abdominal fluid that had built up before my surgery, from the tumors and from the edema I developed after the surgery. I went on to lose another 8 pounds the next month and now have leveled off. Of course losing 58 pounds was not a bad thing for me. I feel better than I have in years and now actively trying to lose more weight. Of course now my appetite is tremendous! I just completed my 7th chemo session last week and have only 2 more to go. I would think you would also require chemo but your doctor will tell you that. Was your surgeon a Gyne/Oncologist? Good luck to you. If you have any questions the women here are wonderful.
