To the newly diagnosed

I can't speak much to ovarian cancer, but I'm a breast cancer survivor of 5 years. Unfortunately my mom passed from ovarian, but she ignored her symptoms for a long time before seeing a doctor. I am having my hyst Thursday for an ovarian mass that I hope isn't cancer, but if it is, I'll deal with it! I was kind of scared, but these boards have given me a WHOLE lot of hope!!!!

Anyway, just wanted to say that to freak for the first couple of days after your diagnosis is very much ok and very normal. Let it all out and then get the fighting spirit going! And I agree, don't be afraid to ask for help. We all cope in different ways and whatever works for you is ok. Two things really helped me get through chemo and rads when I had BC. The MOST important was my online friends, my real time friends all kind of disappeared on me when I was diagnosed (couldn't deal with it) but my online friends were there every step of the way. Most were going through the same thing and a couple of have become lifelong friends. I even got to meet one last year when I went to visit her in California! The second thing is knowledge, I can't stress how important it is to know your enemy!!!! My doctor told me my cancer was probably something to do with menopause and to come back in a year. If I had done that, I wouldnt' be typing this right now! It's so important to arm yourself with knowledge and to take charge of your own medical care! Doctors are human and make mistakes too.

Y'all are in my prayers and yeah, this might be the fight of your life, but it beats the heck out of the alternative!!!!

To the newly diagnosed

Thank you for your words of encouragement. I'm still dealing with the fear and anxiety, but hope to catch that fighting spirit soon.
