Hi.... I had my full-hysterectomy a year ago in march. Im 29 yrs old and am finding this roller coast VERY hard. I take premarin 1.25 which i guess is a pretty high dose because they had to jump start my hormone level and because of my age. Unfortunately i still get hot flashes and my moods are awful. i really live minute to minute, ok one minute, lossing it the next. I won't even move or talk to anyone and this over-whelming feeling hits. I also have the most picky stomach now. I can't tolorate milk products (which i love), spicey stuff bothers me, soda is out of the question, but mylanta is my friend. Basically I am sure they sent me home in the wrong body, this one is not mine!!!!!!!! help.... i am sooo depressed!!!!!

Hi sorry to hear you are having so much trouble. Not everyone does well on premarin. I tried premarin and it did not work for me. Alot of womed do fine with it. Have you talked to your doctor about your dosage or maybe switching to a different kind of estrogen? The bio-identical estrogen made a big difference for me in how I was feeling. It might take awhile to find the right balance for you, so you wil need to keep a good communication open with your doctor.

Hi. I'm an 8 year post-TVH/BSO vet, so perhaps I can share some hopeful info. Many of us have been unable to handle the conjugated/premarin type of estrogens. I have been on the patches for several years now, having switched from the oral, and I am doing so much better. The Vivelle-dots are bio-identical, where the Premarin is from mare's urine, (maybe great for a horse that has had a hysterectomy but for many women not the right replacement.) Please speak with your doc. about a switch to the patches, which by-passes the body's organs and goes straight into your bloodstream. You may find that the gastrointestinal problems resolve with the switch. The pills did the same thing to me. You might also be able to reduce your dosage once on the patches. Don't feel you have to stick with one thing. Many of us have had to change the forms of our replacement hormones, and our dosages have had to be adjusted up and down (and as in my case back up again). There is hope that you can feel much better. Big hug from hystersister, Gal. Let us know how you are doing!

I am 6 mos post op. I took the 1.25 premarin and did fine. At my 6 mos visit to the dr. he cut my dose in half. And I seem to be doing fine, if not even a little better on the .625 premarin. He says I can take this till I'm 55. (I'm 50 now) I don't read too much on this site about premarin, and I think it's because most people who take it don't have any problems. (We read more of the problems here). I know it comes from horse urine and goes through my liver, yada, yada, yada. But I hate to mess with my hormones and if it makes me feel normal I can live with the extra weight that seems to be my biggest side effect.

Hi
Hi Anna Nana,
How much weight did you put on with Premarin? You dont have to settle for that, there are other Estrogens.
Everyone I know puts weight on with Premarin.

Shym,
Hang in there, it's going to get better it just takes some fine tuning and an open minded Doctor....I'm about 5 years post op and I did great on Estratest until last year when I had to go off it. I just wanted to mention though that my first month post op was horrid.........I was so depressed and withdrawn, I was on the patch which works wonderfully for so many people, it just didn't do it for me, as soon as I went on the Estratest HS I was like my old self again. I didn't gain any wt. at all. I went on .03 of Premarin twice a day about 3 weeks ago and I feel like a tank.It doesn't seem as much wt. gain as it seems to be the distribution of it. I feel like i'm preaching to the choir here , I'm back to fine tuning those hormones myself...My mood is good Thank God, I just want to get rid of these hot flashes ...I'm also looking to tweak my libido a bit...I lost it and I just know it's out there somewhere!!!!
You take it easy and take one day at a time...these people here will pull you through anything.
Vicki

Glad to hear some things work. I am 6 weeks post op TAH, had BSO 10 years ago for tumors. On Premarin now. I feel terrible and got so mad I decided to blame all this on my doctor and was going to not go to my 6 week exam. I have a history of depression and was doing really well on Paxil prior to the surgery. Your posts have given me hope that I may be able to try other HRTs. The depression is bad now, as well as the night sweats and pain. Thanks for posting. Hugs.

Well i'm truely excited because i have an appointment a week from this Monday with a doctor. Little nervous because my health care providers changed... but you guys have given me plently of info to ask about....thanks! I am sure if i don't do something soon i know i will fall apart. I have very bad depression, hibernate in my room, and try to pretend all is a-ok at work. No sexual drive, anti-social (which definately wasn't me). I cant sit still yet don't want to move....but if i don't i am going to gain more than the 30 lbs i already gained....it was nice to share sarrow with others who understand. I don't feel like im lossing my mind...please write again!
