Doctor's Appoitnment
I don't think that it is unusual to wait until a month after surgery to see the gyn/onc. BUT that doesn't help you any. The waiting is ALWAYS the worst part. I must say that when I finally got a diagnosis of cancer, and a plan to treat it, it was a relief. At least then I knew the prognosis, the survival rates, and how to fight it. I had a plan and could see that there would be an end to this nightmare. And it's not just the Army! Many of us have had these same problems with civilian doctors and hospitals. I heard so many different things from so many different doctors that my head was spinning. It was a relief to finally have a gyn/onc to sort it all out and have a plan for me. Even then, there was still much confusion because I had a rad/onc and a gyn/onc.
I can relate to the fog and confusion that you must be in right now. We've all been there. Once you see the oncologist and know what you are going to do next, you will feel so much better.
I am not sure what your doctor meant by a 'window of opportunity'. To do what? Another surgery? Wouldn't you need to recover from your last surgery before they could do something else? I know that my friend with endo had to wait 6 or 8 weeks after her hysterectomy before she could begin radiation. She didn't need chemo, only radiation. I did both, chemo and radiation, for about 6 weeks. It wasn't fun, but it wasn't awful either and now I am fine. They gyn/onc even used the word 'cured'! YEAH!!!!
What kind of cancer do you have? Do you know the stage?
Hugs and comfort,
Janie
