Your friend is to be praised for spending time on such a good deed. Language is very powerful and the disability movement has a lot of good resources on what is called "people first" language.

Exactly...I am Valeri first, before I am LDeaf or Blind or Dibetic or a cancer fighter. We are people first. I have a BA degree in Social Work and can do anythilng anyone else can, but see well and hear. However, I have found ways to overcome them. I had dreams of leaving the city and working in a Deaf/Blind school. Life changed. I got pregant and was diagnosed with cervical cancer. So I say a good mission statement could be ...Dreams Die, New Dreams LIve>

I asked permission from Margaret, perhaps we could use here statement Women who wear teal are women of steel. I use it when I wear my teal pin and even my fater showed intrrest in spreading awareness
