Nerve pain?? A little OT

Hey ladies,

I need some of your trusty advice again this morning. What does "nerve pain" feel like? How do you differientiate this from other pain?

I have had back pain and migraine headaches for many many years. Had normal CT's of the brain (twice) and MRI of entire spine 2-3 years ago showing 2 protruding disc, 1 herniated, mild scoliosis and spuring (degenerative changes) of endplates. However, I'm experiencing some pain in my head and shoulders that is new....the only way I can describe it is that it feels like a toothache (sharp, shooting, and intermittent). This morning I am starting to see spots in my vision which leads me to believe it may be another one of those odd migraines.

I do have an appointment with my GP at 1 pm. But, my faith and patience with him is wearing very thin (I'm sure he'll tell me it's because I'm fat -- his answer for everything).

Anyone experience anything like this??

Nerve pain?? A little OT

I have RSD <Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy> in my shoulder, arm & hand. Mine started from a case of undiagnosed, untreated Shingles <sigh> It turned into Post Herpetic Neuralgia < nerve damage> then into the RSD The pain I experience is unreal...sorta like a deep ache that feels like that area is burning. It is extremely sensitive to the touch & hurts to have anything brush against it. I've found great relief thru the use of Neurontin
There is some info concerning Nerve damage; it's symptoms, treatments ect.. available in our Resources Directory
Also, here is a link to some info on RSD...that has some info concerning Nerve damage:

Good Luck in finding some answers, & relief to your pain Pls keep us posted on your progress......(((hugs)))

Now what?

Thanks for the links Sheri! My apt. wasn't all that insightful. Doc thinks all things considered that I might have an auto-immune issue. They drew blood (blew a vein as usual) and sent it for testing for RA and Lupus. Went through this all about 2 years ago and though I had a slightly positive ANA, the diagnosis was FMS not RA or Lupus . Told the doctor this and his comments was "That was 2 years ago." Guess we'll see what happens this time. I know that I am not going to give up quite so easily this time as I am so very, very tired of being in pain. Oh yeah, I had gained another 5 lbs. too. Right now I'm on another round of steroids and Darvocet for the pain. Please keep me in your thoughts!
