i HAVE ANOTHERquestion about the surgery

Yes, you will have a catheter in at least until you can get out of bed - typically overnight, but may be a bit less or more depending on how much work you get done and what kind of pain control you use - it's not so bad

i HAVE ANOTHERquestion about the surgery

I ended up with a catheter for two weeks--but my doc was being extra cautious because I had a relatively new surgery, so hopefully you won't have to go that long.

Catheter insertion

I know that I will be having a catheter for surgery, but I did ask my surgeon if it would be inserted before or after I am put out. I was very happy to hear it will be inserted AFTER I am out. Having had a catheter one other time, I know that it pinches a bit to have it inserted. Glad to know I won't know it's being done.
My dr. said it would probably just remain in overnight so I wouldn't have to get up right away to use the rest room.

Suprapubic cath....

Girrrllll! All I can say is if you are getting a vaginal cath.....be happy with that! They gave me a suprapubic cath which as I found out after surgery, is a very uncomforatable thing. A suprapubic cathader is a tube that comes through the wall of the abdomen and bladder and empties to a bag. Mine got very infected after I went home. These type are left in for 2-3 weeks or more depending on how you are able to retrain your bladder! And let me tell you when they take it out....well...it's not painfiul but it is a feeling that takes your breath away. I still have a big indent where the cath was and my surgery was 3 years ago!! Luckily it is pretty much hidden under my "shelf belly" LOL. But yeah i'm sure i would have prefered to have a simple vaginal cath......
