Cone Biopsy showed unclear margins

Does anybody know what it means when your biopsy shows no cancer but that the margins are still showing severe dysplasia. Is hysterectomy the next step, what happens now. I have been waitning for the Dr. to call me back with where we go next but haven't heard anything. Could anybody please tell me if they have experienced this and what the next step usually is?

I wish the cone had got it all and I am scared about what's left developing into cancer.

Please Help!!!!

next step

Hi Donna,

It depends on what you doctor wants to do next. He may want to go back in and do another cone or LEEP, or move to a hysterectomy. Since CIN III is pre-cancer, either choice could be made at this point. You need to decide what you feel most comfortable with! Try to relax a little bit, generally speaking cervical cancer is slow-growing and you have pre-cancer. I'm sure that your doctor will be in touch very soon! Hang in there,

Thank you for the reply. I just spoke to my Dr. about 20 minutes ago and we have decided to go ahead with the hysterectomy. I have just had my tubes tied and did not intend on any more children due to a severe ppd after my son was born so the hysterectomy just seemed like the best way to go. I had the option of waiting 2 - 3 months and then having another colposcopy or doing another cone to try to get the remainder of the lesion but he said that if I have the uterus and the cervix removed then chances are that I'll be done with all of this. I am feeling very relieved about the whole ordeal.

Thanks again for your reply, I appreciate it very much.

If your done having children, I agree with the hyster option. It will bring you peace of mind.

Well, I am 3 days post-op and all has gone quite smoothly. I am having really bad gas pain from the co2 that they inject to inflate the abdomen but other than that I'm okay. My incisions are all quite reasonable in size, one is very badly bruised and sore but the others look good. I have had very little bleeding, lots of pain meds and doing well. I arrived back home last evening, I only had to stay in the hospital for 2 nights which was okay but once I got home I wished that I would have stayed one more night. I have a two year old who needs to be picked up and needs lots of attention at this point and will not understand why I can't run around with him right now.

My DH is off for two weeks but I'm not sure how much help he will be, I asked him to do a couple of things for me this morning and then had to fight with him to get them done. I am frustrated and have very little patience for any of it right now.

Anyway, I'm tired and I would like to go lay down for a while, thanks for all of the support ladies.
