family??

I am curious as to if (and when) your children should come and visit you in the hospital folllowing surgery. I have a 14 year old daughter who will probably be fine with anything, but my 9 year old son may be a little more 'concerned' about mom. What do you think??

family???

When is your surgery? I am 10 day's post-op from an TAH.

O.k. My family came to see me after I got into my room from recovery, this included DH,DD,DS and Mom. My DD is 13 and my DS is 10. I have been talking to them alot before my surgery and told them what was going to be going on. I told then "Mommy will have an IV, may be some oxgyen, and another bag that will have some yellow stuff in it."

I got to my room around 6:30 and my kids probably stayed for about 30-45 mins? My Mom took them back to her house. Day of my surgery was kind of a haze. DH stayed around until 8 or so, he wanted to make sure that I was o.k. and had gotten some pain relief.

Try and talk to your kids as much as you can. Everyone is different with wanting visitors. By the next day (thurs) I wanted visitors. I had probably about 5 visitors on thurs. Also with your visitors then can help you the halls. Hope this helps.

Good luck on your upcoming surgery.

family??

I appreciate your thoughts on this. I will definitely talk to my kids about what I am going to be like, and I know I will probably WANT to see my children, so....your reply helped me a lot.

Can you help me with something else now? I am new to this and I cannot keep up with these abbreviations like DD DS DH or even TAH ......I think I have figured some of them out just out of context, but where did u learn these? lol I would like to keep up with my sisters. Is a TAH a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy. I guess that is what I am having. I am planning on keeping my ovaries and tubes. What about the cervix?? Is that a choice or what? My surgery is scheduled for June 23, so I guess I am trying to get all of my ducks in order. THANKS SO MUCH

There is an abbreviation page in the drop down to the upper right of your screen. I joined the site a few weeks ago, but I still visit that list quite often.

But to answer the question, DH is dear husband, DD is dear daughter and so on and so forth...and yes you are right about the TAH. I am still trying to learn what the medical difference is between some of them and why one is chosed by the DR over the other.

My surgery is June 18th, so I am sure we will be seeing much more of one another before our dates. This is such a great place!

PS I JUST learned that when you reply, the thread of what you are replying to is at the bottom of your screen if you scroll down...It has been driving me nuts when I couldn't remember exactly what the person said and I couldn't use the back arrow!!
