off to see new uro today and scared :(

I go at 3:00 today to see the new urologist, this guy heads up the IC Clinic at one of our biggest hospitals and I'm hoping he can at least help me with the pain from it...and hey if he can help with the prolapse and leaking too then that's a bonus!

What I'm really afraid of is booking this hydrodistension.....they admitted me last time because it was so painful afterwards and I really don't want to do it again unless they do admit me for pain control again.....actually I think my exact words after the last one was "wild horses couldn't drag me back in the O.R. for one of those again" but ever since my laparotomy and that stupid nurse yankin my catheter out my bladder has never settled down since.....and it was successful the last time after I spent two weeks feeling like I was peeing glass and having the most killer bladder spasms EVER..........

it'll be worth it.....it'll be worth it.....I'm going to tell myself that all the way to the hospital today for my appointment.....wish me luck sisters!

Good luck!!!

I have an appt on Friday with a new Uro at the U of Texas. He is supposed to be the specialist for IC.

I am right there with you on the pain control issue. I had my hydrodistension last October and stayed in the hospital for a couple of days (I also had a lap and the Dr put a hole in my bladder) It was the worst pain I have ever experienced in my LIFE and I have given birth and had several major operations...nothing compared to this pain and I am guessing it was because of the bladder. I hurt just remembering it!!

Let us know how the appt goes!

well I just have one question, why is it always the doctors that look like trolls that turn out to be the good ones

this guy had a rumpled shirt on and his hair was all over the place and scruffy beard but really seemed to know his stuff and was straight to the point.

He did examine me and said my bladder is extremely sore and sensitive, he does feel I have a degree of prolapse but strongly urges me to do nothing about it as it will set off the IC like you wouldn't believe, he said live with it for as long as you can.....he also thinks that when I'm having an IC attack that the ligaments in my pelvic structure go into spasm and cause alot of what I think my prolapse symptoms are.....he said we'll know more after we do the hydrodistension.....which he says they do a little different...they stretch the bladder repeatedly ALOT....and then if you have ulcers on the bladder wall which he suspects I do they blast them off with the laser.......yikes!

so I told him my uro that did my hydro last time admitted me for pain control cause it was so brutal and he said no problem they would admit me for one night and I would go home the next day...he said some people feel fine the next day and some people have horrible pain for weeks.....it's hard to predict.

it will be early fall before they can fit me in for it....and I am terrified that I might not be doing the right thing but he seemed confident that the IC is responsible for at least 75% of my pain and symptoms right now...

...one thing that bothered me when I sat down with the booking nurse to fill out my consent forms there was a question that said do you have high blood pressure, so I told her mine had been very high for the last few months and should I check yes, and she looked at the written request from the doc and said "he put your BP was 120/80 didn't he take it?" and I said "no" cause he didn't, so she took it right there and sure enough it was 155/99........bothers me that he just assumed it was fine, he never even brought it up???

oh and my consent mentions a urethral dilation as well which wasn't discussed and I'm not sure I need and I think it was part of the extreme pain after the last time, I just wonder if I should call up and ask about it......I also forgot to mention the pain with lifting, trouble voiding at night and a few other things....or should I just wait until we are there for the procedure??

(((Gidge))),
IMO, I wouldnt wait in case one of these issues or symptoms your experiencing will somehow interferre with the Hydrodistention....just in case!! You do not want to be left waiting for the NEXT available slot
Perhaps if you call & leave a message with your additional concerns to be relayed to your Dr, he can call you back with any thots he may have or have you come back in Oh & dont forget to mention the BP to them as well!
I will pray that the pain isnt to unbearable & that it can calm things down for you

Good Luck, my friend Pls keep us posted on how things are going...((((hugs))))

I also forgot to tell him that my bladder is 1/2 the size of a normal one....probably a good thing to mention before he starts the distension huh?

I had forgotten how much pain an exam can kick up....... I really need my couch and my blanket and something much stronger for this pain right now

Gidge,
Sounds like a very promising appointment. I do think you need to let the doc know the things that you forgot. It seems like we always do forget something doesn't it?

I'm sending s and hope that soon you can head home to your pillow and blanket.

ah thanks sweetie, I've only got another 45min to go and then another 40min on the bus and I"m there!

it takes about 15min to get through the phone tree at the uro's office and they close their phones at lunch (the only time I, a receptionist can call) so I'm going to have to make a special time tomorrow to call over and say "hey can you make sure the doc knows these things?" I don't want to have to go back in just to tell him.....maybe they can just put them in my chart?

if anyone else has had this bladder fulguration done let me know, I"m scared!
