HPV Infection???

Hello All...

My computer was out of service for a while but it is good to be back.

MY question to all is this... my friends daughter ( just turned 23) was recently diagnosed with a HPV infection. she said that it showed up on her Pap smear.

My friend asked if I knew anything about this and I did not BUT I told her that I would go to the experts for their advice and knowledge. Sooooo here I am again, asking for information.

I'm not sure what type of information you are looking for here, but if you search on HPV or human papillomavirus on this site I think you'll turn up lots of information.

But for a brief overview, HPV is a sexually transmitted virus that has over 70 types, very few of which cause cervical dysplasia and/or cancer. It's estimated that over 60% of the population has at least one type of HPV, but most often it's not one of the types that cause cancer.

Did your friend's daughter have an abnormal pap (i.e dysplasia) or did it just show HPV? If it's a dysplasia-related HPV then the doctor will probably want to follow her closely to see if she clears the infection. Hope she's okay--you're a good friend for asking. Though it may be difficult to share this information. Hope all's well with you.
