have had dysplasia and now new spotting after intimacy

Hi - I'm new to HS, I found it by mistake actually and I think it is one of the best mistakes I've made. So here's my question and maybe someone has had the same experience.

I've had four children starting from 1993 through to 1999. I have had normal and abnormal pap smears. I am actually in a clinic where I go every 4 to 6 months and you must have three consecutive "negatives" before you are dispatched back to your Primary physician. I have had one negative then a positive which has sent me back to the clinic over and over again. I have had two negatives now and if I get the third I'm back at my own physician, but now something has changed for me. The last two times I have been intimate I have had a small amount of bloody discharge and a tiny bit of bleeding immediately after, is it a good idea to see my doctor about this or am I being irrational?

I also just wanted to say of the messages I've read, no one could ever hold a candle to some of the women I have read about - the courage, sweetness, sensitivity and caring of you women makes me feel honoured to be a part of your group and it makes me feel unbelievably lucky to be able to turn to you all for advice and comfort.

I am going through a difficult time in my marriage and until today I have felt utterly alone, and if I didn't have my children's comfort I would have none. Thank you.

Hi Jaxx!

I would definitely make an appointment to see your doctor. There are things that can cause bleeding that are nothing to really worry about, BUT you should have it checked anyway, in my opinion, just to set your mind at ease. Don't worry about whether or not you are being irrational, it's your health, and it's up to you to guard its safety!

Dear Jaxx:

Yes I agree with Beth - get it checked and put your mind at ease. Sometimes we are so concerned about "bothering" our doctors or perhaps "overreacting" but that's what they are there for. We are consulting with them and trying to look after our health and that's not an overreaction.

Do it for yourself and for your children. And please let us know how everything goes.

Sending you lots of s

You really need to contact your doctor as bleeding after sex is one symptom of dysplasia. Better safe than sorry!

I'm quite certain your doctors would want to hear from you, although they might not act that way. Bleeding after intimacy is ALWAYS a concern but often isn't a problem. Please call if only so you can feel that you are actively involved with your own care.

All the best. Zig

I agree with the other "sisters" about seeing your doctor! That is the most important thing to do first. Let me put your mind at ease a bit though. I had dysplasia years ago. Two children later, and two different surgeries to remove my ovaries and I'm still bleeding 50% of the time after intercourse. It may be a very simple explaination from your doctor once they run some tests. I have a thin lining so I tend to bleed easier than most. This started happening when I was about 28 and I'm now 39. Good luck and get back to us!
