Increasing Pain as Surgery Time comes Near
Hi, all -
I was one of those "fortunate" ones who only had severe pain a few days a month - UNTIL six weeks ago. Don't mean to repeat for those who have been following my threads, but the mass of my endometriomas and fibroids are compressing my bladder and ureters, backing up my kideys, putting me at risk for permanent kidney damage, and possible urinary tract reconstruction once they go in.
Up until 2 weeks ago, I wasn't taking pain meds non-stop. I still had days where I could function without. I had a sigmoidoscopy last week, so I don't know if this has anything to do with it. I have several "new" problems:
- Regular nausea - don't have much of an appetite, and when I do, I frequently have to take Maalox AFTER I eat. Could this be from mass pushing UP on stomach as well?
- Gas - they had to shoot air into me during the sig, but should I still be passing copious amounts of gas almost a week later?
- New stabbing pains below my belly button (started before the sig) (~ 1-1/2 in and 4 in below)
- New pain in the area between the right side of the vaginal opening and the crease of my leg -- sometimes closer to rectum.
- Overall, the pain has increased - I am now doing Vicodin every 4 hours, and sometimes take 2 if it's really bad. I'm also worried about pain meds AFTER surgery and developing a "resistance" to pain meds. But, there's no way I can function without - I am doubled over in pain and in tears without.
My belly also seems very firm - I've lost a lot of weight, and am pretty much at my ideal weight (although NOT my ideal tone), so I don't know if I'm just used to being more flabby or what.
I don't have any rectal bleeding. I hate to call my surgeon if this is probably NOTHING, but DSO suggested I call tomorrow.
Maybe my fibroids or endometriomas are just growing rapidly (only 11 more days to go!!)
Anyone else experience this kind of thing? I'm sure the stress of everything doesn't help matters any.

Increasing Pain as Surgery Time comes Near
As you heal I suspect you will be one of those that are so relieved from having all of that out of you that you will not have as much after surgery pain as some experience. My surgery is coming up too and my pain is increading but not quite that strong. I have days when I think, Why and I having this surgery then the pain comes back and reminds me

Yes, I imagine you're right - I have heard many ladies say that the pain after is NOTHING compared to the pain before - I hope they're right!
I no longer have those doubts about having the surgery, especially due to the pain. When is your surgery date? You can go into your "Control Panel" and update your profile so it shows underneath your name.

more pain now
Yes, yes and yes, I am in pain most of the time now. It is always there. I started my period on Friday and thought, good, the pain and pressure always lessens after my period is over, but it doesn't seem to be getting any better now and I am in the fourth day now, so it seems like the fluid buildup should be gone.
We talked about this on another thread I think. I think I was ignoring it or minimizing it before this hyster thing came up, it could just be that the whole darn thing is pushing on everything now. My uterus is enlarging everytime I go in for preop tests or second opinions.
I am sick to my stomach most of the time now-and have the stabbing pains now, and the cramps in my pelvis now, and the back and side ache. And feel like it is hard to get a really deep breath unless I am laying down. I can't wait, I wish I was going in sooner, but that was how it worked out.
Best wishes to you-I too am reminded hourly now that this is my best option. I cannot live like this for much longer.

Increasing Pain as Surgery Time comes Near
The nausea may be the result of taking Vicodin regularly for several days in a row...
