Impatient

Howdy, all!
I am learning that I am impatient. I am waiting for my aunt's BRCA1 and 2 testing results so I know if I need to have mine done. It was 3 weeks yesterday and I am TIRED of waiting! OK, I know it takes 3-4 weeks and technically they have another week, but I want to KNOW! I hate limbo. I think waiting is by far the worst part. I'm a planner - I can't make any plans right now!

Any tips from experienced sisters on how to take this one day at a time??

Jo,

I'm probably not the best person to answer this, I'm about as impatient as they come!! I guess I'd just try to distract myself as much as possible--go run errands or pick up a new book at the library or bookstore (works for me!). I just finished a good book called Population 485; it's a memoir of a paramedic/writer in rural Wisconsin--that's my recommendation.

I'm sure between you and your hubby you are armed to the teeth on info on the BRCAs--so I'd refrain from doing more searching on that and try to think about something else. Good luck to you!

If you look up the word impatient in the dictionary you will see my picture I just take lots of walks, stay busy with friends and family, pray a lot.

I always found waiting for test results to be the absolute worst part of the cancer diagnosis and treatment process! As a result, over the past five years, I've devised a system where I now deal directly with the lab or imaging center to get my results from them directly, instead of waiting to get a copy from the office staff of the doctor who ordered the test. That way, I don't have to factor in the time it takes for the doctor to review the test results, and I have been able to significantly cut down the time it takes to find out the results and obtain a copy for my files.

Thanks for the advice! I've been trying it out this week - keeping busy, reading, walking, etc. The week HAS gone by pretty quickly, in fact. I think we have a busy weekend planned, so hopefully it will go by quickly as well, then it could be any day!

Chicklet, that book sounds really good - I like that kind of stuff.

I hope everyone else is having a great week!
