School Camps

My DS is on a school camp at the moment and a friend of mine was telling me about a camp her DD's school is going on, it will cost her over $400 AUS to send her. But wait for this one, her 12 year old neice's school is going on one and the cost of that is over $900 AUS. They go to state school's not private. We could go on a fantastic family holiday for that. What are the prices like to send your children to camp? It cost us $130 AUS for our son, which isn't to bad. Kay

School Camps

My kids go to private school... the school has a wonderful summer camp which they used to go to, until they decided that 9 months of the year at school was quite enough

They have various summer programs with fees ranging up to US$4,685 for an 8 week session, full days, not including lunch

Although it is an excellent program, I'm secretly glad they don't want to go anymore

We sometimes send our kids to a church camp/retreat in the mountains. They have different themes for different weeks so you can pick what your child likes. One week the kids work on a play (performing arts camp) and then the next week's group of kids may have chosen a rafting/water theme week. There are a few others including one where they actually camp out instead of staying in the cabins. It is all inclusive and the kids really like it. It costs about $450.00 U.S. This is a very good price, probably because it's actually an Episcopalian Diocese church camp, but you can be any faith or denomination. It's in the mountains and it is very well appointed. It only takes us about 1 1/2 hours to drive up to it.

How old is your son Kay, and how many days has he gone for?
My 11 year old DS went for just a 3 day winter camp in March, where they did snow shoeing, cross country skiing, and nature activities etc, and it cost about $150.00 Canadian ( $110 U.S.).
My 16 year old DD went on a band trip to Boston recently with her school, and it cost $300.00 Canadian for a 4 day trip (plus expense money). They always really enjoy these trips, and have great memories from them.

Aurora, my DS is 12, they left on Monday and come back tomorrow, Friday. Although we have our other DS'S at home it has been so quiet without him. Kay
