Comparison Lap/Hyst Pain

Just wondering how the pain differs from that of a laproscopy, with stomach pains and gas, to a Hyst. I know you have a larger incision for a hyst, but pain wise getting around, out of bed and gas pains, would say they are the same, worse or what? Just wondering.

Ok. Pain wise. I had a TAH keep ovaries 23 days ago. I'm not excatly thin or fluffy, I'm kind of in between. I've always had a pouch even after my kids were born. Any ways, gas pain it is painfully almost like, labor pains, or even like having a really bad stomach ache. Getting up and down is hard at first but then it does get better. The best thing to do for the is to walk, nice short walks after your surgery. There were alot of times while still in the castle that I had to stop walking because it was so bad. Felt bad for my DH, couldn't walk very fast either. I think what kept me going with my walks were that every time I had the gas pains I would tell myself this is worth it. The pain will only get better, "this too will pass, It's better than having the pain that I use to have.

Having my first BM that was also hard to, just remember do not strain. Eat plenty of fruit, drink lots of water. Green Tea and Black licorice worked for me, the licorice might raise your BP. Ask for a sopository at the caslte, I did the early morning they sent me home YUK. They should give you stool softners while there, they did me. Also try laying on your left side for the gas and BM concerns. The nurses should be able to help you get comfy.

With getting out of bed, well it's a good thing they had rails on the hospital bed in the castle. I used those as much as I could, made sure the bed was up and reclined as much as possible in order to get up easier. At home DH had to help me in and out of bed. Our bed comes to all most between my knees and butt. I'm 5 '5'. Couch was uncomfy my recliner became my best friend.

You also have to remember everyones tolerance for pain is different than everyone else. I don't know how you handle pain, I almost have to be literly (sp) dying and in tears before I'll take something. The nurse at the castle couldn't believe that I only had 1 pain shot during the two days that I was there. Everyone is different.

Good luck with your surgery on the 11 of June. Hope this helps!
